Healthy Homemade Dark Chocolates

If your anything like me, you are getting excited about all the sweet sugary treats all around this time of year. Valentine’s day makes me think of chocolatey treats, pink frosted cupcakes and, lots more chocolate.

What happens after the chocolate binge is usually not pretty. You crash HARD, get irritable, tired, and then crave more chocolate. This is the vicious cycle we put ourselves through when we give into the frosted sprinkle, glittery, sugary and sweet pastries and chocolates. It is especially hard to resist the sugar on Valentines Day when the treats seem to be on every corner you turn; at work, at home, at the grocery store and of course the candy the kids bring home from school.

So what’s a girl to do? Say no to the chocolate? (like that’s gonna happen) but when you are a health conscious person such as yourself you want to indulge a little without totally derailing your health.

That’s why I am sharing my Healthy Homemade Dark Chocolates Recipe!

chocolate hearts

1 cup cocoa butter
1 Tbsp. coconut oil
1/4 cup real maple syrup or raw honey
1 cup raw cacao powder
1/2 tsp. organic vanilla extract
1/8 tsp. sea salt
*optional: 2 drops orange or 1 drop lavender essential oil (where to buy good quality essential oils)

  1. Gently melt cocoa butter and coconut oil.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in sweetener of choice until completely smooth. Add cacao powder, vanilla, and salt. Mix again until well incorporated and smooth. (Add optional essential oils here.)
  3. Pour chocolate into molds or baking dish. Place into fridge or freezer to harden for 2-3 hours.
  4. Store at room temperature or in the fridge.

Enjoy this guilt-free delectable treat without hopping on the crazy sugar cycle. Let me know what you think about this recipe!
